今月ジャパンツアーを行うニュージーランドの2ピースバンドcarb on carbにメールインタビューを行いました
今回はドラムのJamesに昨年のアルバムとバンドのことなど話を聞きました 是非ツアーの前にご覧下さい

1. まずは自己紹介をお願いします
僕たちはcarb on carb, 2人組のバンドでニュージーランドのオークランド出身だよ. 僕たちはエモミュージックをプレイしていて初めて日本に来るよ!
2. オークランドを拠点とされていますが, オークランドはどんな街でしょうか?
オークランドはニュージーランド最大の都市だけど, ここには約140万人くらいの人が住んでるよ. シドニーの縮小版みたいなところかな. ニュージーランドの他の地域と同じでバンドの数はそこまで多くないけれど, とても良いバンドがほとんどだね.
3. バンドの結成のきっかけについて教えて下さい またあなたたちは2ピースのバンドですが, ベーシスト抜きで活動している理由について教えていただけますか?
Carb on Carbを始める前に僕らは3ピースのバンドをやっていたんだけど, 1人がバンドを辞めることになってそこで僕らは楽器を交換してCarb on Carbを始めることにしたんだ. インディロックバンドとして始まったけど, バンドを進めていくうちにエモが好きになったからエモをプレイするようになったんだよ
それで, 2ピースでツアーが簡単に出来るからっていうのと一緒にツアーをまわってくれる人が居なかったからベーシスト抜きで活動してるんだ. ベースの音を埋める為にギターにベースアンプを通してる.
4. 昨年のアルバムFor Agesの制作にはTWIABPのChris Tetiが関わっていますね 彼が関わった理由を教えて下さい また彼と仕事をしてどう感じましたか? (これまでアートワークを含めて作品全体をあなたたちだけで作り上げていたので, 他の人が関わっているというのは刺激的なことだったと思います)
Chrisに頼もうと思ったのは彼が僕たちがこういう音にしたいって意見が一致したアルバムを数多くミックスしていたからだね. (TWIABP - "Harmlessness", Makeshift Shelters - "Something So Personal", For Everest - "We Are At Home In The Body") 彼とは2015年にフロリダで開催していたFESTで会ったんだ.
彼は素晴らしい仕事をしてくれたよ...彼は僕たちが求めていることをすぐに理解して, 彼の意図を分かりやすく教えてくれたんだ!
5. ソングライティングにおける動機は何でしょうか?
他者が分かち合えるように, 僕らは僕らの曲で他の人と関わりたいってことだね. これは僕らにとってとても健康的なことでそしてその音楽は僕らの情熱だよ
6. これまで様々な国で沢山のツアーをしていますね 思い出に残っていることはありますか?
とても沢山あるよ! まず2015年のFESTはその年のハイライトだったね 沢山の好きなバンドを観たり会ったりしたこと, そして本当に楽しいフェスの雰囲気を感じれたんだ. あと友達とオーストラリアをまわったロングドライブだね (それくらいとっても大きい国なんだ!) そして僕らはニュージーランドのツアーがとても大好きなんだ 本当に美しい国だよ
7. 普段仲が良いバンドやアーティストを教えて下さい (また最近聴いているバンドも)
僕はThe Hotelierがとても好きなんだ. そして数年前からfallsを聴いていて彼らと一緒に日本でプレイ出来ることにとっても興奮しているよ!
NicoleはMitskiやBoygenius, Beyonceをよく聴いているね.
8. 今回日本に来てくれてとても嬉しいです 日本の印象を教えて下さい
僕らは初めて日本に行くんだ, 色々見たり, 人に会ったりシーンをチェック出来ることにとても興奮しているよ!
9. 最後にこのインタビューを読んでいる人に何かメッセージがあれば教えて下さい

CARB ON CARB JAPAN TOUR 2019 - zamblog

I did an email interview with Carb on Carb, who will tour Japan this month. Please take a look.
1. Well then, please introduce your band first.
We are Carb on Carb, there are only two of us, we are from Auckland, New Zealand, we play emo music and we have never been to Japan before!
2. You are based in Auckland, what kind of city is Auckland?
Auckland is New Zealand's biggest city - but only about 1.4 million people live here. It is kind of like a small version of Sydney. Like the rest of New Zealand, there are not a lot of bands, but mostly they are very good!
3. Please tell us about how you formed the band. Also, you are a two-piece band. Could you tell us why you are doing without bassist?
Before Carb on Carb we were in a different 3 piece band together, then the other person left and we decided to swap instruments and start Carb on Carb. We started as an indie rock band but grew to love emo as the band developed so now we play emo. We don't have a bassist because being a two-piece it is much easier to tour, and we didn't know any bassists who wanted to tour as much as we did. We use a bass amp with the guitar to fill out the bass frequencies.
4. TWIABP’s Chris Teti was involved in the production of last year’s album “For Ages”. Tell me why he was involved. Also, how did you feel when working with him? (Up until now, you have created the entire work, including artwork, so I think it was very exciting that other people were involved.)
We decided to work with Chris Teti because he had mixed many of the albums that matched what we wanted to sound like (TWIABP - Harmlessness, Makeshift Shelters - Something So Personal, For Everest - We Are At Home In The Body) - and we had met him during Fest in Florida in 2015. He was amazing to work with - understood what we wanted straight away, explained his thoughts about it, all while being fun and supportive!
5. What is your motivation for doing songwriting?
We want to relate to other people with our songs, so that they can feel understood. And it is also therapeutic for us. And music is our passion.
6. You have done many tours in different countries so far. Please tell me if you have any memories of the tour.
So many memories! Playing at Fest in 2015 was a highlight, seeing and meeting so many of our favourite bands - and its a really fun festival atmosphere. Long drives with friends around Australia (such a big and empty country!). And we really love touring New Zealand too, its such a beautiful country.
7. Please tell me the bands and artists that you usually get along with. (Also the band you are listening to recently.)
My favourite is The Hotelier. I have been listening to Falls for a few years and am very excited to play with them in Japan! Nicole listens to a lot of Mitski, Boygenius and Beyonce.
8. I’m glad you came to Japan this time. Please tell me if you have any impression about Japan.
We have never been to Japan before! Very excited to see it, meet people and check out the music scene!
