1.それではまず, 自己紹介をお願いします
僕たちはHemingway, オレゴンのポートランドで活動してるよ (インタビューに答えている)僕はギターボーカルのベンだよ
2.ポートランドで活動しているとのことですが, どんな場所か教えて下さい
ポートランドはすごく良い街なんだ 他の街に比べたら小さいところだけれど, そんな小さな街を僕は愛しているよ
観光で回るのも良くて, 美味しい料理や綺麗な景色もあるし, なにより消費税が取られないんだよ すごいよね
3. 昨年あなたたちは"You Will Be Never Happy"をMaking New Enemiesとday crashからリリースしました 私はこのアルバムであなたたちのことを知ったのですが, このアルバムを制作していたときのことを覚えていますか? (どんなレコーディングだったか等...)
レコーディングのプロセスはとても簡単なものだったね, 僕は友達のDustin Hayesと一緒にアルバムの楽曲を作ったんだ そのDustinはMaking New Enemiesを運営してる 僕たちは色んな友達と一緒にこのアルバムをレコーディングしたんだ それはとっても楽しいものだったし, 結果として出来上がったこのアルバムにとても満足してるんだ
4.先日新しいEPがリリースされましたね, チェックしましたが本当に良いEPだと感じました これはいつ頃録音したのでしょうか
"Enjoy Your Life"は12月にレコーディングしたんだ だいたい3日間で録り終わったのかな
5."Pretend to Care"は6131, "You Will Never Be Happy"はMaking New Enemies/day crash, そして"Enjoy Your Life"はCounter Intutiveからリリースされています それぞれの音源のリリース元に選んだ理由を教えて下さい
僕たちは最初のアルバム"Pretend to Care"をリリースする為に6131と契約したけれど, もっと早く音源をリリースする為に友達のレーベルであるMaking New Enemiesに入って"You Will Never Be Happy"をリリースすることに決めたんだ
そして新しいEPの為に僕たちは別のレーベルからリリースしようと思ったんだ それがクールだと思ったし, Counter Intutiveからリリースしている音源が大好きだったから僕たちはEPをリリースしたいって頼んだんだよ
6.曲を作る時に影響を受けるものはありますか?
幸せや悲しみの感情から影響を受けて曲を作っているよ この2つの気持ちは音楽で別のアートを作り出したいという僕の想いを具現化するようなことだからね
7.これまでの活動の中で印象に残っていることはありますか (ツアーのエピソード等...)
僕たちはなるべくツアーで一年中ずっと動こうとしているんだ この3年間で3回のアメリカツアーを行って, 沢山のローカルショーを行おうとしたんだよ
正直, 今回のハワイと日本のツアーを行うことが今までで一番大きい出来事だと思うんだ...
8.普段から仲が良いバンドは居ますか? もしくは好きなバンドを教えて下さい
多分Walter Etc.が一番仲良くしているバンドじゃないかな あと僕が好きなバンドはSaves The DayとStarflyer 59だね
9.今回日本に来てくれてとても嬉しいです 元々日本に来ようと考えてはいたのでしょうか
日本でツアーをするなんて僕たちにとっても夢みたいなことだと思っていて, 僕たちには到底出来ないと思っていたんだ 5月にハワイで幾つかのショーをする計画を立てたんだけど, その時にハワイが(日本とアメリカの)途中にあるから日本でもライブを出来ないかと考えたんだよ
僕はungulatesのコウに連絡して幾つか日本のライブのショーを準備してもらったんだ とってもラッキーなことだったよ
10.今回Walter Etc.とツアーを回りますが, 彼らの印象を教えていただけますか
僕たちはWalter Etc.とこのツアーを回れることにとっても興奮してるんだ 2012年にDustinとHemingwayを始めたんだけれど, 元々彼とは高校からの知り合いだったんだよ 彼らは非常に才能があって, そしてとても素敵なバンドだよ Making New Enemiesを通して自分のバンドや友達のバンドをリリースしているのもとても良いと思うんだ 是非彼らの新しいアルバム"Gloom Cruise"をチェックしてほしいね

I did a mail interview with Hemingway which carries a Japan tour at the end of May. Then please have a look.
1.Well then, please introduce your band first.
We are a band called, Hemingway. We’re from Portland, OR. My name is Ben and I play guitar and sing.
2.Acting in Portland, but tell me what kind of place?
Portland is an awesome city. It’s relatively small, but that’s what I love about it. It’s easy to get around, has great food, beautiful scenery, and no sales tax. It’s great.
3.Last year “You Will Never Be Happy” was released from Making New Enemies and day crush.
I knew about you guys on this album, do you remember what you are making this album? (for example, what kind of recording was it like...)
The recording process was pretty easy. I wrote the entire record with my friend Dustin Hayes. Dustin runs Making New Enemies. We recorded the whole record together with various friends playing on different tracks. It was a fun process and I’m happy with how it turned out.
4.About a while ago, a new EP was released. I heard it immediately, but it was really good. When was this recording?
We recorded our new EP “Enjoy Your Life” back in December. Only took us about three days.
5.”Pretend to Care” is 6131, “You Will Never Be Happy” is Making New Enemies/day crash, and “Enjoy Your Life” is a release from Counter Intutive, but tell me why each label was chosen as the release source?
We were approached by 6131 to release our first record “Pretend to Care” but then decided to release our second record “You Will Never Be Happy” with our friends in Making New Enemies to get the record out quicker. And for our new EP I though it be cool to just keep releasing our music with new labels and I’d liked all the releases this label Counter Intuitive Records had put out so I asked if they wanted to release our EP and they agreed.
6.Is there anything that will be affected when you write songs?
Usually what inspires me to write songs is a strong feeling of happiness or sadness. Those two feelings are what bring out my desire to want to write music and create other forms of art.
7.Have you been active so far, have there been any impressive events? (Tour episodes etc.)
We try to stay busy year round by touring as often as we can. We’ve done three full U.S tours in the past three years and try to play local shows often. Honestly this tour we have planned for Hawaii and Japan is probably our biggest accomplishment as a band.
8.Do you usually have a friend band or something? and tell me about your favorite band.
Walter Etc. is probably one of our closest friend bands. And my favorite band is probably Saves the Day or Starflyer 59.
9.I am very happy to be coming to Japan this time. So, were you thinking you wanted to take a tour in Japan?
It’s always been a dream to do a tour in Japan, but I never thought it be possible for our band. I had made plans to go to Hawaii in May and was able to get us a few shows there. I decided that we might as well try to play in Japan too since Hawaii is already halfway there. I got in contact with Kou Nakagawa of Ungulates and he was able to help us out with some shows. We really got lucky.
10.Walter Etc. together with the tour, will you tell us their impressions?
We’re really excited to be doing this tour with Walter Etc. I started Hemingway with Dustin back in 2012 and we’ve known each other since high school. They are a very talented band and extremely nice people. They put out their own music through Making New Enemies and are nice enough to put out friends music as well. Check out their new record “Gloom Cruise."
