Take This to Heart Records
Take This to Heart Recordsとこのバンドも契約を交わした
We will premiere the music video of Hemingway's "Still Nothing"!
It's song from "You Will Never Be Happy" released from Making New Enemies and Day Crush on June 23.
The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Dieがそれだ
"世界は美しい, もはや死ぬことを恐れていない"という何とも言えぬ長尺のバンド名 (最初はEmpire! Empire!
Well then, may I introduce you about the band? (When you formed, etc.)
Turf is Maxx, Alex (That's me!) and Mark. We started playing together in the winter of 2015. Maxx and I used to be in another band for a few years, and i've been playing shows with Mark's other bands since i was a 15 years old baby.
Next, "Glass Filter" will be released in October, is this the first sound source? I listened first, but I felt it was a very nice EP.
So, when was this EP recorded? Jonathan James of SSLYBY seems to be an engineer, will you tell me how he joined?
Glass filter is the first thing we've recorded, outside of low quality iphone demos we sent to our friends. Honestly it is super cool you're listening to it from thousands of miles away. I am blushing while i type this, and i'm glad you like it!
We recorded Glass Filter in February of 2017. Jonathan James is the best audio engineer in town, and we didn't know who else to go with. He mixed and mastered one of my old band's final record, and it just seemed like an obvious choice. I sincerely cannot understate how much of a pleasure he was to work with.
You signed a contract with Citywide Records according to the release, do you think there are reasons for choosing this label?
Rachel, who runs Citywide, is my best friend. We met a year ago while they were selling merch for a band i booked in Springfield, and we've been in damn near constant contact since then! They asked if Citywide could put out the record after i sent them demos, and i didn't hesitate to say yes, or even bother to ask anybody else. There isn't another label in the world i'd rather work with for this release.
Are there any bands or songs that were influenced by music production and lyrics? Or you can use any band you like.
We kept the production pretty simple by recording everything live together in a big room and letting Jonathan's ears do what they do best. Lyrically, Maxx told me he gets a lot from Slint and Cap'n Jazz. My attention span is too short to really say i have much of an influence beyond whatever i listened to the day we wrote the song. I think 'Mom Weed' kinda sounds like a shitty Third Eye Blind song, but nobody agrees with me.
Do you usually have a friend band or something?
I love this question! So many of my friends are in awesome bands. O.N.E. is fantastic Youth Crew Hardcore from our area. Dream Ritual is the only good grunge band. Grady Drugg is the best singer/songwriter on the planet. Coping Skills and En Route from Philadelphia are fantastic. Maxx and I are in love with Estates from Milwaukee. That new Two Knights record is great, and Parker is the nicest human being alive. Keep an eye out for Dakota Jones now that he's in Seattle-- Thank me later. My favorite band right now is Mark's other band, Kudzu. They have a new record coming out pretty soon that is fucking fantastic. Magic Chronson forever. I could spend a couple weeks on this question because all my friends make great art, but i'll leave it at the first couple of things that came to my head.
I think that EP will be made and live will be done more, but where do you want to go somewhere? Tell me if you want to do a band with you.
I've never been to Texas without having a great time. The north east is cool because the drives are short and everybody's in a hurry. I'd love to go to Japan because Missouri has shitty seafood. Really we're down to go anywhere.
It will be the last time, but please say something if you have something to say.
We're about a 3 hour drive away from St. Louis. The St. Louis police are responsible for the murder of 9 in 100,000 black men. The national murder rate is 5 in 100,000. That means a black man in St. Louis is almost twice as likely to be killed by the police as the average person is to be murdered by anyone. If you have any money to spare, https://www.fundedjustice.com/61HQD2 ? is a fantastic cause to help pay for the court and legal costs for activists in the St. Louis region. Thank you.
